The
roots of our name, "The Oceanboom"
Our name is a combination of one honorific
Japanese prefix, two English words and one Japanese word:
"O", "Ocean",
"boom" and "Shinbun"(sheen-boon).
1) "Shinbun" is the Japanese word for
"newspaper".
2) In many cases in Japanese, when
placing an "O" as a prefix to a noun,
the "O" makes the noun honorific. Therefore,
an Oshinbun has a more erudite and upper
echelon sound to it than just a plain ole, run of the mill shinbun.
Also, the "O" stands for "ongaku"
which is Japanese for "music".
3) We decided to incorporate the ocean theme into our name for
two reasons. First, it is used as a response to our very ocean-centered
environment here in Japan. Second, the word "ocean"
and the "O-Shin" of O-Shinboon
sound quite similar phonetically.
Now
you
know,
and
knowing
is
half
the
battle.
